North West Championships U.K.B.F.F. 28th May 2006
Report by Sarah Bridges and David Gentle
Warrington, the north east show, is always a great venue to be at. Your promoter Kerry Kayes,
of chemical nutrition products, was in attendance greeting contestants and fans alike. Every contestant received a goodie
bag. Some pro shows do this but let me tell you they are nothing like these goodie bags. If that wasn’t enough all contests
names were put into a hat, and the winner was to receive £1000 of products from C.N.P. I wish I could have entered myself.
The lucky contestant turned out to be Marc Westacutt. Also two fantastic guest posers were there, the first being John Hodgson,
who was just back from the U.S.A., where
there were 35 contestants. John qualified for the evening show in the top 16. Sadly they only announced the top five. John
came on stage to a thunderous roar from the crowd. He looked incredible, I’ve been lucky enough to have John as a friend.
He’s helped me get ready for shows and guest spots ever since 2002. However I have never seen him in this condition
and size before. He looked phenomenal and such a credit to our sport. John has been responsible for grooming quite a few British
Champions and never tires of helping people. 2nd Guest poser was Mustafa Mohammad. Mustafa’s weight is, at
the moment, 130kg and that’s with abs showing. That’s the heaviest body builder at Mustafa’s height there’s
every been. He’s one of the nicest men you could ever meet. He performed a very interesting seminar on stage with all
questions answered. I think he would have stayed all night if possible. We hope to see Mustafa back in the near future. Last
year he placed 10th in the Olympia, this year he
hopes to do much better. A Little titbit about Kerry Kayes; It seems Kerry made history being the first body builder to be
featured in the boxing news. He got a two page write up on being Ricky Hatton’s nutritionist. To quote Ricky’s
Hatton’s trainer Billy Graham ‘Kerry is the only one that has bought some thing to the table.’ Let’s
hope he will remember he’s a body builder first. I’m sure you’ll all agree we can’t afford to lose
people like him.
First Timers
It’s hard to believe these contestants have never competed before. This category
seemed to improve show by show. Most competitors would do very well in their chosen category. However there can only be one
winner and that spot went to Craig Winnord, who had an excellent shape and stage presence. Close behind were Nigel and David.
Nigel nosed into 2nd place with David Morris in 3rd.
Junior’s u/21
What an opener to start the show. Four fantastic physiques, this is one category
that seems to improve every show. However it was Jo Boyd that stood out on the day, with good conduction and still holding
size. Jo could have shown his body parts better with his free posing, but I’m sure that will come with time. You have
a great package Jo! 2nd came Alex Clarke also with an outstanding physic and an invitation to the B.C. With some
hard training Alex could turn this decision around. 3rd came Oliver Williamson, who I think, should try again at another show.
I’m sure he would qualify for the B.C.
Senior o/40
They say life begins at 40. Well it certainly does foe our 3 contestants at Warrington. All Three had excellent physiques which made it a difficult job for our judges. The seniors always seem to enjoy themselves on stage ands
this was no exception. Both 1st and 2nd place received invites to the B.C. 1st place went
to Andrew Binch, 2nd place Carl Stevens and 3rd was Steve Lockwood. All 3 are a credit to our sport
and prove age doesn’t matter. Well done to the seniors.
Fitness ladies
Sadly only one competitor for this category but to quote M.C. Kerry Kayes (C.M.R.
bodybuilding) He was sure Rachel would have still done well had there been more competitors, and that she’ll get her
chance to show how good she is at the B.C.
Intermediates
U.K.B.F.F. intermediates are divided into two categories; under 80kg and over 80kg.
So we firstly deal with the under 80kg. Four outstanding physiques, each one worthy of being picked for the B.C. Each contestant
had done their homework and had prepared for it correctly. It’s always sad you can’t put all five as number one.
On this occasion first place went to Marc Westacutt. Marc, as well as winning the competition, he also won the £1000 prize
from Kerry Kayes (chemical nutrition products) 2nd place went to Neil Ashley. Both these lads could have been 1st
and 2nd at the B.C., what a credit to bodybuilding! Third spot went to Mohammad Sorkhabi.
It was now the turn of our heavier intermediates, over 80kg. Again some fine physiques. Another difficult one for the judges and a very close one. Again, the lightest man
in the category took first place. So body builders please remember condition is important. Sitting with me, the master of
condition, John Hodgson (U.F.B.B. pro) was even impressed with our winner Wayne Locket. 2nd place went to Stuart
Garrinton. Finally third went to Lee Ward. All three have a great future in bodybuilding, well done lads you were a pleasure
to watch.
Body fitness
Body fitness seems to be getting more popular. A close top three, with 2 invitations
to the B.C. First Adel Gibbon who’s experience showed through. Close 2nd was Nicola Thomas with new comer
Angie Moore taking third. Angie who runs her own gym in Bishop Auckland (grants gym) along with friend body builder Wendy McReady, our 2004 B.C., so if you girls are in that area and what to build some
muscle pop in for some first class advice. Wendy McReady tells us she’s taking a year out to get bigger, so America watch out. Lastly, but defiantly not least,
was fourth place Julie Philips.
170kg
Our largest category of the day, the 170kg class, with each contestant bringing
something different to the show. From size to ripped, all looking good, each contestant had a lot to offer. The more you looked
the more difficult it got to pick a winner. That was our pre judging, but by the evening our winner stood out. First place
went to John Hammer. So John whether you pumped up more or had some chocolate for extra sugar, you did it right. You look
great! Second was Wayne Robinson and third was Lee Blyth, well done all three of you.
80kg
Two amazing physiques. Only two in this category, but what a pair. Kerry said he
saw both Andy and Kevin back stage and couldn’t separate them, they both received invites to the B.C. When Kerry announced
the winner he said it was only on this occasion. The winner was Andy Kenyon. There couldn’t be a closer second from
Kevin Flynn, which could be turned around at the B.C.
Women u/57kg
Sadly for female bodybuilding only one contestant, but Kathy you must have inspired
a lot of women in the audience. She had an outstanding physique for the under 57kg. When Kerry invited anyone to guess her
age no one even came close. Kathy is 53 years old but looked mid 30’s. Any women sitting there, watching Kathy must
have felt envious or at least wanted to start training. Well done Kathy and good luck at the B.C. We salute you.
Under 90kg
This is becoming some category. Under 90kg is about 198lbs or 13stone 6 lbs. However
these ladies always look heavier. This is always a highly competitive class and the Warrington
show was no exception with five exceptional physiques. It was so close, all top 3 got invites to the B.C. and that rarely
happens, that shows how close our top 3 were. First was Gary Halliwell, 2nd Phil Vaines and 3rd Craig
Clegg. It will be interesting to see how our top 3 finish up at the B.C. Before we finish we must mention posing. 3rd
place Craig Clegg, excellent posing to the record. Amazing grace Craig you were a pleasure to watch. Still on posing, Phil
Vaines got the crowd clapping along to the music. We all enjoyed his routine.
Women o/57kg
Great to see more than one heavy weight for the women. 1st Sharon Madderson
and what a winner. If you may have missed her at Warrington,
don’t miss her at the B.C. If she turns up looking this good, girls watch out! Passed British Champions, Karen Marillier
and Wendy McReady, both agreed with me Sharon is some one to watch out for at the B.C. this year. In recent years, women’s
bodybuilding isn’t what it was regarding contestants. So come on girls it’s about time some of you come out of
retirement. Girls like Angee Ross and Gil Feather both promised me a comeback. So come on girls back in the gym. Plus all
you other ladies that didn’t promise. Second place went to Alicia Kavuljakove from Slovakia, let’s hope to see more of Alicia.
Over 90kg
Last as always the big boys. Again the top 2 got invites to the B.C. This only
happens when its close and the judges feel that it could be turned around at the B.C. In the past this has often happened.
First was Paul Azozo Megina. Paul brought to the show big shoulders, a small waist and some big arms. Second was Lucas Gabris
and it was a very close second. So Lucas get busy in that gym for the B.C. Third place went to Derik Morton and fourth went
to Andy Norman.
